Digital Financial Literacy Training for Low-Income Jordanians and Syrian Refugees

A digital financial literacy training targeted at low-income Jordanians, Syrian refugees living in Jordan, and home-based business owners.

Developed as part of GIZ’s “Improving Access to Remittances and other Financial Services through Digital Solutions in Jordan (Digi#ances)” project, this digital financial literacy curriculum, consisting of audio episodes, take-home activities, and visual guides, is designed to increase underserved groups’ access to and use of e-wallets.

Jordan has a vibrant and growing digital financial services and digital payments ecosystem. However, uptake and usage of e-wallets remain low among certain groups, including Syrian refugees, women, and low-income users. Some of the top barriers to the active use of digital financial services are the absence of education, training, and a support network to navigate first-time use. Available in Arabic and presented in 10 modules, the free and open-source curriculum is an engaging way to build capacity to evaluate and use e-wallets among underserved groups.

For information on how to use the training, contact Jennifer Linares (Senior Program Manager) at jlinares@siaedge.com.

  • 4 MAIN CHARACTERS

The training curriculum follows two couples as they help, teach, and support one another to use e-wallets to manage their finances safely. Through everyday events and transactions — making a payment, sending/receiving money, etc. — the characters build their skills and learn how to protect themselves from fraud and scams.

  • 10 AUDIO EPISODES

The 10 training modules are paired with 10 audio episodes offered in Arabic. The episodes tackle basic skills, such as paying bills and sending money, and more advanced skills, such as using e-wallets to expand business sales, all designed to boost confidence in using e-wallets.
